It’s that time of year where everyone starts sharing their ‘best books of 2024’ lists/posts. Personally I’m a fan! I love seeing the books that resonated with others; the reasons why, if it’s a book that wasn’t on my radar, and how it breathes new life into my tbr for next year.
This year I read seventy-odd books and I was surprised by how easy it was for me to narrow down my top-ten list. I also noticed quite a shift in my reading tastes this year compared to the last two. I gravitated toward romcoms in a way I hadn’t since I started Bookstagram (@bennetandthebookworm if you’d like to follow me on the gram), and hardly picked up any thrillers. I hadn’t realized that until checking out my Goodreads to draft this post!
Onto the books… These are the ones I couldn’t stop thinking about. The ones I have recommended over and over again. The ones that live *rent* free in my head.
And boy, you’re in for some good reading if you pick any of these up!
The Wedding People by Alison Espach is about rebuilding your life, finding happiness in the mundane, and knowing it’s never too late to start over. The amount of love I have for this book and these characters is unparalleled. Phenomenal on audio!!
Blue Sisters by Coco Mellors is for the sisters, literally. Messy characters that feel so real they’ll leap off the page and burrow into your heart.
Sandwich by Catherine Newman a short book with so much punch. I’d suggest saving this for the beach, and maybe a few tissues (don’t worry, it won’t destroy you).
In the Weeds by B.K. Borison is my favorite in the Lovelight series. Evie and Beckett’s love was so quiet and tender. I adored the message of ‘finding your happy’ and asking for what you need in return. All the heart emojis.
Funny Story by Emily Henry is a story about two strangers who wind up living together after their exes get together and hijinks ensues. If you’re a Midwest pal, this is set in the UP and is prime summer Michigan vibes.
Margo’s got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe wins the award for most unique plot I’ve read in some time. Twenty-year-old Margo finds herself unemployed with an infant on the cusp of being evicted. She needs money, and she needs it fast. Then Margo has a plan: she’ll start an OnlyFans account. I highly recommend on audio.
Ready or Not by Cara Bastone is about Eve Hatch who finds out she is unexpectedly, expecting from a one night stand and follows how the news cracks apart her well kept world; changing her relationships in more ways than one. I highly recommend on audio.
The Briar Club by Kate Quinn captures the paranoia of the McCarthy era and examines the changing roles for women in a postwar America. It’s got secrets, mystery, and even murder… *gasp* I highly recommend on audio.
Good Material by Dolly Alderton is simply put, a book about a breakup. It’s raw. It’s relatable. It’s f**king hilarious! It depicts a modern relationship and subsequently a modern break-up too a tee.
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston is a story about a ghostwriter, who can literally see ghosts, returning home to bury her beloved father and finds a particularly handsome ghost waiting for her when she arrives. If you read The Seven Year Slip and loved it. You don’t want to miss this one!
Honorable mentions go to the additional books in the Lovelight Farms series, my Throne of Glass reread (relisten), The Rachel Incident, and my first forary into fanfic with Remain Nameless and Manacled.

We have basically the exact same taste in books. I was so happy to see Ready or Not here. The first time I read it I wanted to shout it from the rooftops.
I loved Funny Story! It was so fun 🤩
