Drumroll please: Short Story Long is now Mostly Sunny
where the vibes are high, the yaps are flowing, and we always have fun
Happy Sunday Friends!
And more importantly Happy Mother’s Day to all the mama’s out there and a shoutout to my own mom if she happens to be reading this.
Today I wanted to share some big and exciting news… Short Story Long will now be called Mostly Sunny—with a side of yap!
After six months publishing on Substack I finally feel like I have my footing on the platform and the content I want to share. Like many others who start a Substack, I had zero idea what I was doing with it when I started. Naming convention, content strategy, content schedule, you name it—I didn’t have it figured out. A classic leap before you look situation my mom has been berating me about since I was in grade school.
1.) What can I expect from the change?
The good news is that the core of this publication will remain the same. You will continue to receive a weekly (occasionally bi-weekly) newsletter from me every Sunday morning, bright and early! On The Sunny Side—where I share a few sunny things that have brightened my days, what I’m reading, watching, and obsessing over too—isn’t going anywhere. I will also continue to send out my monthly everything I’ve read and monthly fixation posts.
The big change is the name: Mostly Sunny, which I believe resonates with the content I produce and how I want you, my readers, to feel while reading.
2.) Does this mean you’re introducing a paid tier?
At this time, no. I would love to keep this Substack a free space for as long as possible. Who knows if this will change in the future, but I can confidently say there is no plans for a paid tier right now.
3.) Anything else to note?
Only other thing is the url is now readmostlysunny.substack.com and all previous posts will be redirected with that naming convention. And who knows but one day I would love to create a low-pressure book club element to Mostly Sunny. If this is something you’d be interested in, drop me a note in the comments and maybe place a fire under my booty to get it going.
What I’m Loving this week
Alright, as promised, here is what I’ve been loving this week.
Everything 🧢🍯 the way this color combo has me in a chokehold is unreal. And I’m not one for butter yellow trend (it would wash me out) but loving some of these other hues. Here is the current moodboard I have in mind when it comes to summer outfit pairings.
That floral maxi dress and the striped drawstring pants are singing to me!
What I’m Reading & Watching

I’ve been reading Any Trope but You by Victoria Lavine and I’m having such a fun time with this book. A bestselling romance author flees to the Alaskan wilderness to reinvent herself and write her new murder-mystery only to be met with trope after trope like she’s living out one of her romance plots. It’s fun, it’s topical, it’s giving Book Lovers vibes. It’s fun and light, and filled with all your favorite tropes.
In between pages of Any Trope but You I’ve been picking up A Bit Much by Lyndsay Rush. I’m not a poetry reader but when
recommended this cutie poetry number, I had to pick it up. I’d classify this as not your average poetry and I’ve already tabbed countless favorites. On the TV front, literally nothing new to note. Still watching Your Friends & Neighbors and Daredevil. It takes us forever to get through shows lately, especially with the weather in Chicago warming up and the sunshine beckoning.
That’s it for me friends. What do we think of the big announcement??? Do you have any fun Mother’s Day traditions you’re doing today? If so, feel free to let us know in the comments below 🤎
Until next time,
MacKenzie
Love the new name! Def fits your substack’s vibe. Also totally down for a low pressure book club!
I would so join a book club
